If you’re new, that’s great! Captain Ben has tons of experience teaching new divers and we have the equipment you need.
If instruction is necessary we will be sure to help you get comfortable with proper freediving techniques and how to show you how to handle a speargun. We’ll move you along as fast as you’re safely able to go.
For the more experienced diver, we will work to target the species you are interested in hunting in the depth range you are comfortable with. We frequently hunt on reefs, wrecks, and bluewater for a variety of species such as hogfish, grouper, snapper, jacks, cobia, African pompano, and wahoo.
What to Expect on a Key West Spearfishing Charter
We are very fortunate to spearfish year-round in Key West as the water temps are mild and visibility is typically in our favor, We also have some seasonal fish which keeps things fun and interesting!

We have all the equipment you’ll need. But of course, if you bring your own equipment, we can help with what you may need from band tying to recommendations.
We depart from colorful Stock Island, a historic fishing and trapping community right before Key West. There is plenty of parking located at Keys Fresh Seafood and the Docks Restaurant. So if you want some of the keys freshest seafood like stone crabs and lobster, or want to kill some time at the bar with oysters and ceviche they’ve got you covered!
Luckily, we are very close to many of the best reefs and wrecks, you can book a 4, 6, or 8-hour Key West spearfishing charter. for beginners looking for some instruction, I often recommend a six-hour trip in order for you to take your time in the water. That being said, I look forward to seeing you all!
What Fish Can You Expect to Catch?
Spearfishing offers a variety of targets depending on the season, location, and your skill level. Some of the most common fish species you'll find in our waters include:
Snapper
In the Florida Keys we have a variety of snappers from mangrove snappers, yellow tail, mutton, and cubera. They are relatively abundant and great eating.
Grouper
We have many varieties of grouper like red grouper or the prized black grouper. Black grouper are typically more of a challenge, but shoting one comes with bragging rights!
Jacks
Amberjack are known for their strength, these fish provide an exciting fight and great fish dip. We also have the more tasty yellow jack which can be eaten raw or turned into a great ceviche.
Wahoo
Possibly the prized fish for local spearfisherman is the wahoo. This seasonal fish is a target for the more experienced looking to hunt pelagic fish while Bluewater diving. These species are prized for their size and speed.
African Pompano
This fish is another favorite as they are very unique looking and great tasting, plus they put up a massive fight!
Cobia
Another winter seasonal fish. Cobia are a delicious white meat fish that also put up a big fight.
Mahi-Mahi
Vibrantly colored and fast, these fish are rare to see while diving but always a treat.
